DETAILS:
‘Connotations’ is a two-part piece that draws from the opening arpeggio in the piano. The melody of the piece emerges from tone clusters that are constructed from the intervals in the arpeggio. After the melody has been established, the piece gains momentum and each instrument presents the melody in altered states. The piece concludes with the flute playing the melody in a cadenza-like setting followed by all players contributing to the arpeggio.
