Christopher Ramaekers, conductor
DETAILS:
This piece was composed for a concert cycle of brass works that was to be played at Western Michigan University, Michigan State University, Central Michigan University, and University of Michigan in 2005.
‘Travels’ is a light march for brass choir and three percussionists. From the beginning of the work, the music is already moving steadily and methodically along. The opening material is repeated several times and each time the music travels down a different path of musical possibilities. The first diversion ends in a waltz like figure in the trumpet. The second return ends with an elongated choral version of the opening harmonies. The third and last return ends with a full and forte tutti section before the piece dissipates into silence.
